Going south, we got a ride in less than an hour. Keep in mind, though, that this road is seldomly used with very little traffic. There are no real settlements between Hopewell and the coast, so if you do get a ride past Hopewell, you're probably getting a ride for a reasonably long distance.―Anonymous

This Irving Big Stop is a good place to catch long-distance traffic to or from Cape Breton, and is especially useful if you're coming from the ferry from PEI. With a sign that said "Newfoundland", I got a ride all the way to North Sydney in less than half an hour.―Anonymous
